Johnny Chan was born in 1957 in China, he came to America at the young age of nine and has now made Las Vegas Nevada his place of residence. When he was 21 years old he dropped out of college from the University of Houston. He was majoring in hotel and restaurant management and planned to continue the family business of owning and running a restaurant. He decided to move to Las Vegas and pursue the exciting world of poker and gambling.
Directly after Chan dropped out he headed right for Las Vegas with poker on his mind. It didn’t take long for Chan to notice that the fact he was Asian threw the other players off, they weren’t sure how to read an Asian poker player. Chan made it a point to take full advantage of this. In the beginning, Chan had a problem walking away; this was something he had to overcome in order to become successful at poker. He has since learned many things along the way and become very successful at the game of poker.
